Trailer Filling Monitor
Description
The aim of this device is to monitor the filling process of a trailer in order to optimize the space usage and thus increase the loading efficiency. It is composed by an analog grayscale camera and a processing unit, both installed onboard the trailer. The outputs the location of the best loading position that would optimize the complete load.
In case of continuous loading, a detection of the loading stream position is available as well.
Applications
The system can be used as output for the trailer driver in case of continuous loading to adapt his speed in order to optimize the filling.
Another application field is the truck loading process: by means of a led indicator, the best place to unload is highlighted as shown in the following figure. There is no more need to look inside the trailer, speeding up all the procedure.
The system can be useful in several fields of application: agricolture, quarries, ceramic industries, and wherever there's the need to fill up a trailer with bulk materials
The output can be also used as input for other systems to increase the automation of particular applications. In the following figure is shown an output example: the blue and green dots on the left image are the positions of the filling flux (the blue one is the contact point with the load); on the right side the load profile is shown, a progress bar indicates the current filling percentage.
