The aim of the Smoke and Fire Detector is to provide a fast estimation of the visibility inside a tunnel.

System overview

The presence of smoke in tunnels could lead to dangerous situations for road users. The system is designed to detect situations of poor visibility in tunnels and warn the operator to activate emergency procedures. A signaling panel at the entrance of the tunnel can be switched on as well to alert the oncoming drivers.
Different levels of visibility can be detected as shown in the example figures and different warning levels can be adopted as well.

The system analyzes videos coming from already installed surveillance cameras, and does not need calibration or special settings.

Possible applications may include:

• Poor visibility alert,
• Emergency alert panel control at the tunnel entrance
• Heavy traffic or queue detection (as Add-on)
