TerraMax at the DARPA Grand Challenge

The TerraMax vehicle represents a milestone in robotics and autonomous driving. It safely concluded the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge using vision as its primary sensor. TerraMax is equipped with 3 cameras to be switched on and off on the fly, to create three different stereo systems with three different baselines. They serve to perceive depth at three different distance ranges. It proved to be very efficient and much more robust than moving solutions, where cameras were gazing at different locations.
