This vehicle has been equipped within the APALACI Project (a PReVENT Integrated Project funded by the EC) in 2005 and thoroughly tested throughout 2006. The stereo system developed by VisLab allows the vehicle to perceive the presence of obstacles (mainly pedestrians) in the close proximity of the vehicle and inhibits taking off when a pedestrian is walking in front of the vehicle. This functionality is called 'Start Inhibit'.

As shown in the picture, the driver has no full visibility of the area in front of the truck and a vision system is there to help!
